garden pod in

To provide a low maintenance garden with a good view from the sitting room, and to feature an covered seating and dining area that could be used in all weathers.

Design and outcome

The garden pod chosen by my clients ticked all the boxes for their outdoor living requirements. It has an in- built circular table and seating benches, and the pod revolves on a base to follow the sun.

A circular astroturf lawn links with an Indian sandstone patio near the house. The design disguises the awkward shape of the garden and gives a large bed for favourite plants that can be viewed from the house.

Staining the fences dark brown created a great backdrop for brightly coloured plants such as the variegated willow Salix hakuro-nishiki, tall grass Miscanthus sinensis 'Zebrinus' and the acid yellow Alchemilla mollis. Pink penstemon 'Garnet' and Japanese anemone 'September Charm' thrived in the heavy clay.

'We were amazed at what a difference staining the fences made, it set everything off beautifully'
