classic oak garden building in
Chipstead

Brief

A large steeply sloping garden that had previously been overgrown and hidden by large shrubs. The area was cleared and there was to be an oak framed garden building and a sunken hot tub.

Design and outcome

Working with the natural slope of the garden as much as possible, the design lent itself to a natural stream tumbling down to a small pond, viewed from a decking platform. This links up with the terrace leading out from the garden building for sun lounging and a sunken hot-tub tucked is in a discreet corner.

Old railway sleepers on edge curve round to retain the main bank, creating more suitable lawn areas.

The oak gazebo is clad with an attractive man made material from Fossil Stone www.fossil-stone.co.uk that imitates a dry stone wall. The flooring is Timberstone, a concrete product from Stonemarket www.stonemarket.co.uk resembling old sleepers, but which is more practical and gives a suitably rustic look.

Prunus lusitanica (Portuguese laurel) hedging screens a shed, bonfire and composting area.

The gazebo has been beautifully dressed by my client, and is a gorgeous spot for relaxing, entertaining and enjoying the garden. Facing west, the views are amazing; perfect for a glass or two on a summer's evening, watching the sun go down over the rolling countryside.

'We love our new garden and spend so much time out here now. We also asked Nancy and her landscapers to re-do out front garden'
