front garden planting in
stoke d'abernon

Brief

This newly prepared border was all ready for new planting. The brief was for a red, orange and yellow scheme, with grasses.

Design and outcome

The soil was quite heavy clay and so the plants chosen to suit; Alchemilla mollis, long flowering Potentilla 'Mrs Bradshaw' and Euphorbia griffithii 'Fireglow' provide the colour against a backdrop of purple Heucheras and a Phormium for structure. Stipa tenuissima grasses give a contemporary touch.

Orange Tulipa 'Ballerina' bulbs were planted to give plenty of Spring colour.

The border was finished off with a rotted horse manure mulch to keep in the moisture, suppress weeds and also feed the plants. We tend to mulch all our planting borders with this mulch as it has proved so effective.

''We really enjoy the colour the garden provides, especially the orange tulips which come up every year''
