front garden planting makeover
cobham
Brief
The brief was to revamp the planting installed by the developers, adding more colour and interest.
Design and outcome
The original planting included 3 big Viburnum tinus shrubs under the window which were removed and used in the back garden where they serve as a good evergreen backdrop in a larger border. The existing Ligustrum half standards and the box balls were kept in position while the Pittosporum 'Tom Thumb' balls were re-positioned.
Blue Geranium 'Rozanne' was chosen to brighten the border as it is so long-flowering. As this border is seen every day, a long season of colour is ideal, along with the evergreens for permanent structure.
Other plants used were grey leaved and evergreen Helichrysum 'Icicles', Foxgloves and deep purple Salvia 'Carradonna'. Nepeta 'KitKat' edges the borders, a dwarf variety which won't get too big.
A border at the front of the lawn now has an Acer 'Ozakazuki' as the central focal point, surrounded by Stipa tenuissima grasses and long flowering Geranium 'Ann Folkard'.
Alliums and Narcissi will extend the interest in Spring.
'We are really pleased with the makeover as we wanted to create more interest as you approach the house''
