front garden and driveway in
Reigate

Brief

A new driveway was required to accommodate two cars rather than one. The steps to the front door were quite perilous and needed updating, along with the planting. A new path to the side gate, in front of the bay window was also part of the brief.

Design and outcome

Marshalls tegula setts in 'Traditional' colour were chosen for the driveway material, along with brick walling to match the house. The steps to the front door were completely re-fashioned to face the house rather than to the side, and they are now comfortably wide. The step material is sawn sandstone from London Stone, with a bullnose edge for durability.

A brick path now leads around the bay window to the side gate.

The new planting features irises from the original bed along with low maintenance shrubs Euonymous japonica and topiary balls. Groundcover is in the form of Liriope and Brunnera. Plenty of spring flowering bulbs such as crocus, narcissi and alliums will extend the interest.

The result is a much more pleasing and practical front driveway and entrance.

'We love the new wide steps leading to the front door, they feel quite grand!'
