natural stone driveway in
Caterham

Brief

An extra parking space was required, without the end result looking too much like a car park. The brief was a natural look, in keeping with the local area.

Design

Horsham stone in a crazy paving style was chosen as the material for this project. Crazy paving is making a comeback due to the trend for re-cycling and salvaging materials.

Horsham stone is quarried exclusively near Broadbridge Heath in Sussex. www.horshamstone.co.uk It is similar to Yorkstone, and similarly has plenty of character with a riven, rippled texture reflecting the fact that it once formed the base of an old river bed. It is very heavy and hard-wearing. The rustic, honey colour of the Horsham stone went well with the existing wall, a feature of many houses in the road.

The brick path to the front door ties in with the colour of the tiles on the house and leads through a central circle of flint chippings for drainage.

2 cars now comfortably fit on the new drive and when empty, the front garden still looks attractive.

'We have had many passing admirers of our new front garden and drive and we love it too.'
