Cloudpruning

I spotted this ‘Cloud Pruned’ Viburnum tinus in a front garden in Barnes yesterday. What a great idea to prune it in this way, the original bush must have looked quite untidy. It is now an elegant feature.

The gardener of the house was there, and he told me that it had a taken a while to get the ‘clouds’ filled out, but it has been worth the time and patience. The branches have always been there hidden under foliage, and it just took some judicial cuts to reveal this structure.

I may well try this out. It also works well with Pittosporum and buxus.
