Contemporary garden in Bookham

This garden was completed earlier this year. The brief was to create a Contemporary style garden with a sawn (smooth) paving slab, with steps, raised beds and a sunken trampoline. The before shot is at the bottom of this post. The steps lead off from wide bi-fold doors to a level lawn.

The paving slab chosen was London Stone Black Basalt, and combined well with traditional bricks to match the house.

For the planting, the client gave me the colours yellow, purple, blue and white to work with; a lovely combination, and I really enjoyed creating this scheme.

In this raised bed, there is Ceanothus, Hydrangea ‘Annabelle’, Verbena bonariensis, Lavender, Phlomis fruticosa, Salvia ‘Carradonna’ and Heleniums. The client’s own climbing rose fits in beautifully. Contemporary baton fencing tops the existing wall.

The large trampoline is now sunken.

This is the before shot:

This narrow strip of paving and the existing patio around the side of the house were replaced and enlarged.  Instead of the grass bank there are steps and raised beds with grasses and colourful planting, and the trampoline is now sunken….all in all one of my favourite transformations of the year.
